PRIMARY SCHOOL JOŽE GORJUP KOSTANJEVICA NA KRKI, SLOVENIA

Primary School Jože Gorjup Kostanjevica na Krki is an educational and cultural institution that enables top achievements, excellent knowledge, rich culture, and it also enables learning in nature, leading a healthy lifestyle and developing educational and social skills of pupils, employees, parents and the entire local community.

Our school is a small one - 230 pupils (aged 6-15) and approximately 30 teachers, situated in the smallest town in Slovenia - Kostanjevica na Krki, which is at the same time the only Slovenian town situated on the artificial island, with a rich natural and cultural heritage. It is surrounded by beautiful nature - the river Krka, the Kostanjevica cave, The Gorjanci hills, the Krakov forest, which is the biggest lowland flood forest with oaks and hornbeam in Slovenia. What really makes our school one of the kind is the special Art Gallery, which is situated in the school itself. In this way, our pupils are surrounded with work of arts from the early age and are able to learn about culture, art and heritage in a unique and authentic atmosphere. Of course, they also participate in many cultural and other events and are able to express themselves in various spheres. Our school is involved in many different projects on a school, local and national level. So far, we have not participated in Erasmus+, so this additional experience would strengthen the knowledge, skills, social interactions of our pupils and the professional growth and development of our teacher staff. We are constantly striving to develop and upgrade strong areas in our pupils and teacher staff.

We were drawn to this project, since one of our preferential idea of educating is also learning and developing skills in nature with various innovative approaches.  Slovenia is a green and sustainable country and nearly 60% of it is covered in lush forest.
